Kamunen Racing's Driver Eric Grochowski and Co-Driver Leanne Junnila are chasing the Group 2 title in both the Canadian and Western Canadian Championships this year in their heavily modified VW Golf. Fresh off a Group 2 win in Maniwaki Quebec, they are looking forward to a very challenging battle against a competitive field at Cochrane this year. It will take a lot of flat out driving and a bit of luck to repeat last year's podium finish, but the team can't wait to give it their all.

Kamunen Racing would like to thank The Financial Guides, Rallysport.ca, The Calgary Humane Society, Altada Decorating and Louren Sansregret Photography for their continued support.

Team Get Real Rally

Driver: John Geelen Prince George, British Columbia
Co-Driver: Matt Glade Vancouver British Columbia

John will be running the event with a new Co-driver but still plans to push his classic Subaru to the limit. Last year at Cochrane all he was able to do was just run the course with a car with only three injectors working but this year the car is running great and the team plans on putting on a great show…...Team Get Real Rally plans on doing all the events in the Western Canadian championship for 2008. We look forward to great competition and another great event…. We love this event because usually all the seasons can be experienced in each stage.

Ista Rally

Ista Rally's Kris and Jaclyn Schofield are excited to be back rallying again in their Grp2 RWD Corolla. After finishing last season with a career best, 2nd overall, we are looking at trying to keep up the pace again. This will be the second attempt for the team at this rally. "We are far more confident and know more where the gotcha corners are and hopefully not see them from the ditch again." says driver Kris. Good luck to all the other competitors and looking forward to what is looking like a great Grp2 battle.

We would like to thank Rosche Racing engine builders, Ronin-racing.com, and Louren Sansregret Photography for their continued support. Also thanks to Maurie Loewen for heading up our service crew.

Gopher Rally

The Gopher Rally Racing team will consist of Driver Chad LePoudre of Warman, SK (currently Saskatchewan’s only stage rally competitor), and Co-Driver John Hall of Sherwood Park, AB for the 2008 edition of the Cochrane Rally.

2007 was a successful year of rallying for the Gopher Rally Team, with a general improvement in performance and experience through out the season. The team looks forward to continuing this learning process and (hopefully) continuing to move up the 'leader-board'. The 2008 edition of the Cochrane rally represents the first time Chad will be driving on roads he has actually raced on before.

It’s been a long winter, and the team is looking forward to getting back at it!

Team Fly GTI

Team Fly GTI has a new co-driver for 2008. Michel Monette replaces Amy Machnik in the smart seat. The car has suffered from several mechanical issues over the past couple of seasons, hopefully all is well now and we will finish our first event in over 2 years. Once favoured contenders for overall podium finishes in regional events, we find ourselves practically starting over. We'll see how quickly we can return to a competitive pace. We are really looking forward to a new season; it's been far too long since either of us have been in a rally car. Let the fun begin!

Jackman Racing

Jackman Racing is a rally team based in Vancouver B.C. Currently the team just finished building a Volkswagen Golf for Group 2 class (modified 2 wheel drive) and debuted the car at the Pacific Forest Rally on October 19-20th of last year. Team Principle and Driver Dwane Jackman is experienced as both driver and co-driver with over 10 years of top level and exciting competition, both in his home land of Barbados and here in Canada.

Dwane and Jackman Racing plan to continue where they have left off, by competing in the Western Canadian Rally Championship in 2008, followed by an attack on the national title in 2009.

The red, blue and silver Eagle Talon, with the flame paint job, is being driven by Graham Bruce (Calgary, AB) and rookie Co-Driver Bob Waddell (Toronto, ON). Graham successfully ran the Talon last year and is looking forward to a strong 2008 season with fewer mechanical problems, although breaking in a new co-driver may well lead to some mechanical problems if the road doesn't follow the "notes." From Bob's perspective, Graham's issues with ADD and a mild case of dyslexia ("no, the other left!") may be cause for concern in his rookie season, although he has some reason to be confident, given that Graham has done this before...

The Talon is running very well and the January test day was an excellent shake-down for the car, so we are ready to go. Bob has booked his flight and the team is set for March 16th. We would like to thank our sponsors AM Mackay Diversified (Cochrane, AB) and Town and Country Auto Parts (Cochrane, AB) for their support and a special thanks to our Tech Support (and Pit Tootsie) Jamie Alison for his hard work and understanding of Graham and Bob's "challenged" mental capacity('s).

Good luck to all for the 2008 season, keep the shiny side down and the rubber on some of the road, most of the time.

Avalon Racing

The Volvo has gone through massive transformations this winter. We would like to thank our new sponsor Avalon Electric for donating their time and energy into building a custom aluminum dash. Cherry Turbos for providing a custom built TD05 turbo and ported exhaust manifold. Bert and Jacks Automotive and D&K Automotive for helping install our new custom made coilovers. A huge thanks goes to Matt Dupuis from the calgaryvolvoclub.com for tuning the Volvo. We look forward to another great season of Group 5 in the Western Canadian Rally Championship.

Team Alliance

Team Alliance, the father and son duo from Kamloops, BC, are back and ready for their second complete Western Canada Rally Championship season. Last year at Cochrane the team experienced their first stage rally DNF as novices under severe icy road conditions. However, following Cochrane they went on to four consecutive event finishes, rounding out the top 10 nationally at the Pacific Forest Rally in Merritt, BC. This season the team is looking to compete again in all Western Canadian events and continue to improve on last year’s performance as the competition becomes stiffer and the level of rally in Canada continues to reach new heights. The team looks forward to starting their season in Cochrane and wish all competitors, old and new the very best throughout the 2008 rally season.

The Prescribed Burn Rally Team, comprising Mark Jennings-Bates 2006 WCRC Novice champ and Jennifer Daly 2008 Alcan competitor are once again campaigning in the Western Canadian Rally Championship and this year are aiming for top honours. "Cochrane is always tricky conditions, yet almost always guarantees snow and ice, it is a great event to start the year off and the stages are fast too, we are excited to be testing a new set up on the car at Cochrane and hope to place on the podium this year again" said Mark, the teams driver. The team is well supported by an eager volunteer service crew headed up by Dave Hood from Kelowna.

Fast Forward Racing

Fast Forward Racing is headed back to rally this year for the rally west circuit. They will continue this year in their open class 1990 Eagle Talon TSI for the first race of the season. The team looks forward to having their new 2007 Subaru WRX ready to race for the second event of the 2008 Western Canadian Rally Championship.

Driver Johnny Summers and Ko-Driver Kodi Hutchinson are excited to continue in the rookie category this year with the support of some fantastic sponsors.
