2012 "Last Chance" Novice Rally

The last of this year's CSCC Novice TSD Rallies is set for Saturday, December 15th.

While the event is geared towards beginners, due to the nature of the roads (mud/dirt/ice/snow?) some driving proficiency is required.

In addition to an insured, registered and maintained vechicle, you will require winter tires, first aid kit and 30cm warning triangle. (see our sponsor if you need equipment). A set of mudflaps are also recommended and since this event may run into darkness decent headlights would do no harm.

For teams wishing to learn the basic navigational and mathematical skills required for TSD rallying there will be a novice school before the event. Please RSVP the Organiser (via email) if you will be attending.

This is a great way to shake off the rust just in time for the Trail of the GNU on March 23rd 2013.

The rally runs on straight-forward instructions. The rally will be about 250km long, entirely within the province of Alberta. An odometer check section of about 10km will be provided. Roads will be about 30% pavement, 70% gravel/ice/snow and all mileage will be provided in KM units.

Congrats to David Ma and Jeremy Opalach on their first win. It was quite the gong show last night... navigation is always much more difficult in the dark.

The three Road Rally Handbook door prizes went to: Jeremy Opalach, Satvir Pabla and Edgar Nava.

As always a huge thanks to the volunteers: Matt Pullen, Adam Vokes, Wim van der Poel, John Munroe and Bryan Lord... these events wouldn't happen without your support.

There will be another novice rally in January or February please check here or the forums.

The first Championship event is the Trail of the GNU up in Rocky Mountain House on March 23rd 2013.

See you around! - Kurt

Bulletins

Friday December 14, 2012 - 7:00am

The route check has been completed and a few photos are available (see below). Conditions look pretty interesting with a light layer of snow on top of the gravel with a few icy corners and minimal snow banks although we did found a few that made us giggle.

We also have a couple more Road Rally Handbooks up for grabs.

See you all tomorrow!

Monday November 19, 2012 - 9:30pm

As an added bonus we will be giving away a copy of the "Road Rally Handbook" by Clint Goss. This book is perfect for novices looking to nail down the basics or to explore more advanced strategies & equipment.
